Bio & Artist's Statement
William L. Salisbury, of Clayton, NY (Thousand Islands) created
legendary metal creations that are dotted around the north country.
His best known, his giant "Three Crows" located on his property and
behind his workshop, can be seen from the South bound lane of Rte.81
driving from Alexa ndria
Bay.
He was a man who lived his compassionate artistic vision, expressing
it both in his artwork and in his life, creating works of social
commentary and beauty, mentoring fellow artists, training young men
in the art of metalwork and preserving the legacy of north country
artists over time in his website.
Will also forged a reputation with his warmth, wit, conversation and
his own personal mettle.
"Moonwalkers has been a passion for a decade now. I have been
attempting to comment on the human condition on our planet: Strife,
warfare, disease, hunger, displaced millions, rape, greed, poverty,
pollution, and global warming are the short list of our human
maladies.
Friends have let me use them as models starting with being
partially covered with wrappings like bandages in a civil war
infirmary. Eventually I canned the idea but kept the poses. Naked
and alone we stride ahead into uncertain futures, but it feels a bit
more risky and fruitless as greed, nationalism and constant warring
surround us.
Some redeeming human values are shown here: The family is helping
each other yet not all can be saved.
I am most proud of these works."
Friend Charlie Tebbutt writes: "Will's life-long, thematic art
captures man's inhumanity and societal failures, while provoking us
to be better humans."
